5 Current Food Obsessions

Hiiiii!! You guys are SO sweet. Thank you- I mean really thank you- for all your kind thoughts and prayers. Means a lot to us.

Our time in Florida was brief, but really nice. There were many memories shared along with tears, but Jared has a great family and group of family friends so it was nice to be all together.

We woke up at 4am this morning and Jared’s step-dad took us to the airport.

I headed straight for the coffee kiosk, of course. Sadly, Dunkin Donuts was in another terminal!! I was hoping for a DD coffee since I never get them at home. Oh well.

Our first flight was to Phoenix and we slept most of the way. We had an hour layover and even though it was only 10am AZ time, we ate lunch- there was so much food leftover from the post-funeral “party” (I know it’s not really called a party, but can’t think what to call it…) so we packed a bunch of food.

Can’t ever go wrong with a bagel sandwich.

East Coast bagels are so much better than West Coast ones!

I was planning to do a What I Ate Wednesday post and photograph today’s eats….but you know how traveling is- I ate a little of this, a little of that (cashews, apple, etc) and just gave up on photographing. We got home around noon Cali time and it has been great to have a catch-up day. I’m currently in the middle of two loads of laundry.

I also went grocery shopping! And since I’m not doing a WIAW post, I thought I’d tell you about some of the things I’m currently “obsessed” with from Trader Joes…

20130129-181911.jpg
You probably won’t be surprised by any of these, but here’s my top 5 list:

1) Lentils- I can’t get enough of TJ’s per-cooked lentils. Soooo easy and tastes great.

2) Apple Cider Vinegar- Great price at TJs. I take a swig every morning, it’s supposed to help your digestive track.

3) Rice crackers(yes, still), Brussel Sprouts, and their frozen spinach- Every day staples that I like buying there better than at Safeway or Whole Foods for some reason.

4) Refried Pinto Beans- I’m always very hot or cold with beans in general. Now I’m going through a “hot” phase and love them! TJs has a good canned bean selection.

5) Pre-cooked Rack of Lamb- Okay, this is a cheat meal (NO not cheat meaning unhealthy, cheat meaning it seems like you slaved in the kitchen to cook it, but you didn’t so it’s awesome for a lazy night). You just pop it in the oven for 35 minutes and it even smells great. Jared loved loved loved it…and I made it on a night I promised to cook, but then started feeling lazy and it worked out so well. I’d def cook-cheat again with this meal another time.

That was his plate…meat and potatoes are a guy’s best friend.

So…you tell me–

What foods are you currently obsessed with?

- What’s a food vacillate between hot or cold with? (like me and beans)

-How far do you live from the airport?

Happy to hear you are home safe and sound!
Those lentils make a wonderful soup with all TJ incredients AND I made the best lentil chili EVER this weekend. So good! Let’s talk Apple Cidar Vinegar. I just bought some for a recipe but what else do you do with it. I know everyone loves it and have heard about the boost in digestion. Do you just drink it plain?

Currently I am digging dark chocolate squares, Argo Tea loose leaf teas, homemade LARABARS, and grapefruit.

I do just drink it plain (i take a swig)…..it takes a little while to get used to it, but I really like it now. You can also put a tbs in a glass of water too….but I’ve never tried that so I’m not completely sure what that tastes like

Good to hear it all went okay. It’s always comforting to be with family and friends.

One minute I love avocado, then I overdo it and it makes me feel blah! At the moment I’m one week off one week on!

I have a small airport 30 minutes away that I used for a work trip to Manchester on Monday, but for holidays they’re all about 90 minutes away.

    Happy Wednesday!

Latest food obsession: Since I’ve been dealing w/ this stomach bug, I can’t get enough of sourdough pretzels.

Welcome back. I’m glad that you were able to be with family and friends. Plus, flying east to west is so much more pleasant than west to east, so I’m glad you had some downtime before returning to the grind.
TJs can do no wrong in my book. We eat a bag of the multigrain with veggies frozen mix (not sure if that’s exactly what it’s called), pretty much every week. Also bought a bag of Wasabi Wow mix which used to be my thing and then I got sick of it.
Do you feel like the apple cider vinegar is making a difference?

I actually do think the apple cider viengar is making a difference….but I also started doing some other things (swallowing raw garlic- i know sounds gross- taking a probiotic, eating flax, etc) that I think have helped too, so I can’t pinpoint which ones are having the most influence

I recently started taking a probiotic and couldn’t believe the difference it made.
I love all the steps you’re taking!

Thankfully, I only live about 15 minutes from the airport and am two blocks from the light rail that will take me there for $1.75! Too easy :) Foods I am and on and off again with include broccoli, bison and oatmeal.

I love food you can munch on later when it’s cold. Like pizza. Mmmm.
We live like 2 hours from our main airport, Gatwick, but we have a nearby one for smaller flights. I once took a teeny tiny plane to Northern England – it could only fit like 12 people on it!

Thanks, Anna. It all went pretty well. Wow, 2 hours to the airport is far! That tacks on a lot of travel time even after you fly back home from a trip

I give you credit for drinking straight-up ACV.
I’ll have to check out the lamb – I’m always looking for new protein sources to try.
I’m in full citrus mode. It looks like a citrus grove exploded in my kitchen – navel oranges, blood oranges, grapefruit, cara cara oranges…
