WIAW: In the cabin
Hey! I just have to say, I know I complain about my commute a ton, but when the sunrise is like this, it is sooo worth it
We’ve had the nicest sunsets all week.
For WIAW this week, I photographed my eats from Monday. We spent the morning in Tahoe and then drove back home after lunch. For a road trip day, my eats weren’t so bad.
On Monday, I started with a cup of coffee while watching the inauguration.
Then for breakfast, I ate the same thing I had on Sunday morning– a banana and an egg.
I ate an unpictured orange about an hour later.
We stopped in Truckee for lunch. The meal was okay, at best. I got a steak salad. It was greasy and fatty and kinda gross. Jared and Charlie helped me with the steak and we still had a lot of leftovers.
I would not recommend the café one bit. Blah. And my friend ordered coffee and asked for skim milk and the waitress lectured us about how the owner of the restaurant lived to be 96 and always drank whole milk in his coffee and therefore you shouldn’t even be asking us for skim. Um hello, maybe she just likes the taste of it…and regardless, none of your business, I could care less about the owner’s eating habits.
Moving on….
After lunch, we started our road trip back to SF. We stopped in Old Town Sacramento to stretch our legs and walk Charlie. He was happy.
I resisted the urge to stop into one of the 12 ice cream stores we passed and ate an apple when we got back into the car instead.
We finally got home around 5:30 and after unpacking and chilling, I was eager to make dinner. Luckily, I had some food in the fridge and made a quick but really, really yummy dinner of kale, quinoa, and TJ’s refried black beans. I had some lentils to use up so I added a little to the plate too last minute (yes, I know…a lot of beans). Loved this dinner.
Jared of course thought I was crazy when I asked him if he wanted the same thing. He’s so picky! He got a meatball sub from next door instead.
I snacked on a rice cracker with jam after dinner and then crawled into bed a little before 9:30pm. I had a wedding nightmare dream that the DJ didn’t show up and there was no music and everyone was bored and I was crying and….HAHA, I always have dreams like that about events so I guess it was bound to happen. At least I know that when I dream about it, it doesn’t come true so now I won’t worry about the DJ not showing up.
And there ya go– WIAW. I owe you a Leibster award post…and I’m going to a foam rolling workshop Wed night, so I’ll blog about that later too!
But tell me….
– Did you watch the inauguration?
– What kind of milk do you use in your coffee? I like almond milk.
– Any of your relatives live past 95? What do you think their secrets are?
– Do you have anxiety dreams in prep for a big event or work/school presentations, etc?

January 22, 2013 at 11:49 pm (118 days ago)What a bummer about your salad. If I ever head that way, I will definitely remember your situation on not stopping there, Ha! I can’t believe they would even bring up the fact about the milk. Obnoxious.

January 23, 2013 at 11:30 am (118 days ago)Hahaha, yes make a note and don’t stop there ever!!

January 23, 2013 at 2:15 am (118 days ago)Anxiety dreams are the worst! I can totally get myself worked about something, and then end up dreaming about it that night. So annoying! But at least waking up to knowing it was just a dream is a relief. Hang in there. The wedding will turn out perfectly!!
Rebecca
January 23, 2013 at 11:30 am (118 days ago)Yeah, it’s always such a relief. I think I’ll just resolve myself to having these dreams every so often for the next 4 months

January 23, 2013 at 3:24 am (118 days ago)haha i love that jared went for a meatball sub. i should be lucky my boy is up for my weird and healthy creations – usually. sometimes if its vegetarian he’ll fix some chicken too, but usually he is up for trying! but meatball subs are good too

January 23, 2013 at 11:29 am (118 days ago)Lucky! That makes it so much easier to have a guy like that!

January 23, 2013 at 4:13 am (118 days ago)Wow- seriously impressive eats for a road trip day!
That’s brutal about the wedding dream. I always get those- before a race, if I have to work super early, etc. When I was younger I worked as a lifeguard. The worst dreams were that at the end of a swim, I’d find someone at the bottom of the pool.
Thank goodness I don’t (often) dream about work anymore!
Rebecca
January 23, 2013 at 11:29 am (118 days ago)Oooh, that’s scary dreams to have as a lifeguard…but I think I would have had the same one

January 23, 2013 at 6:31 am (118 days ago)I definitely have anxiety dreams! It’s so nice to wake up and realize they weren’t real

January 23, 2013 at 7:03 am (118 days ago)Usually Ben and I eat the same thing for dinner but sometimes I’ll have something a bit different if he wants what I call a ‘fat boy’ dinner. I always offer him some of mine but, like Jared, he’s like “hell no!” Charming haha.
How rude about the woman in the cafe! I detest when people start commenting on food and drink choices. Unacceptable!
Rebecca
January 23, 2013 at 11:28 am (118 days ago)Haha about the Fat Boy dinner!! Men are so funny

January 23, 2013 at 8:20 am (118 days ago)Hahaha, the cafe owner’s eating habits! So rude and like you said, totally inappropriate! I hate when older generations try to lecture about eating habits like … “Well, I’ve drank a coke every single day for 80 years, and I’m still here, aren’t I?” UGH. To each their own, I suppose!
Rebecca
January 23, 2013 at 11:27 am (118 days ago)Yes to each their own, and I suppose she meant well, but soo annoying!

January 23, 2013 at 8:47 am (118 days ago)that waitress IS ridiculous! My great grandma lived to be 96 I think. I don’t know if she had any secrets, but she was sharp as a tack. I hope I’m that way!
Rebecca
January 23, 2013 at 11:27 am (118 days ago)Me too!

January 23, 2013 at 10:01 am (118 days ago)Wow that sunrise is beautiful!! You’re lucky that you get to look at that during your commute!

January 23, 2013 at 11:26 am (118 days ago)Wish it was like that every day!

January 23, 2013 at 10:43 am (118 days ago)Bummer on the salad
OMG about that waitress…what the hell?! Why would anyone think it would be their business to lecture you on what kind of milk you order? Yikes.
Rebecca
January 23, 2013 at 11:26 am (118 days ago)Totally!!

January 23, 2013 at 11:21 am (118 days ago)I always have vivid anxiety dreams about big events! Usually the worst happens, but I think it helps get rid of any fears before the actual event!

January 23, 2013 at 11:50 am (118 days ago)That part about the skim milk made me laugh. Some servers are ridiculous. I once had a waiter tell my boyfriend’s (very Italian) dad that real Italians don’t eat chicken cutlet. Just bring the man some chicken!
Rebecca
January 23, 2013 at 2:35 pm (118 days ago)Ugh, how judgemental!! But totally funny too!
Run Eat Play
January 23, 2013 at 12:57 pm (118 days ago)Too bad about the salad
And tat thing about the skim milk is crazy…if a customer asks for skim milk, they shouldn’t be given a lecture. I use a bit of cream in my coffee…I can’t help it, I love it!
Rebecca
January 23, 2013 at 2:35 pm (118 days ago)Completely agree! And I don’t think there’s anything wrong with cream in coffee– whatever an individual preference is works!

January 23, 2013 at 7:46 pm (118 days ago)The spinach on that salad actually looked pretty decent buried underneath that steak. And you had eggs for breakfast. I love eggs; they are so simple and delicious.
I use almond milk in my coffee because I gave up the cow’s milk a few years ago. Too bad I can’t give up their cheese too.
