A Dog Festival
Hey! I never posted about the weekend and thought I’d do a quick recap today. We’re having an Indian Summer heat wave over here. Perfect weather always makes the weekend that much better.
On Sunday, after brunch…..
and some time at the park…..
Jared, Charlie, and I checked out a dog festival hosted by the SPCA
How cute is the dog superman costume?
There were several booths, all dog-related– i.e. a dog hotel, a doggie daycare co-op (interesting idea), dog massage (!! yes, it’s real! so funny), professional dog portraits, and plenty of dog treat giveaways.
We saw so many adorable dogs…….
as well as some really dog-obsessed people….including this woman who was pushing 4 dogs around in a stroller (i thought that was weird, but the dogs seemed happy).
Several dog adoption groups brought their pups who were looking for new homes. I wanted to adopt them all! Breaks my heart, but luckily the shelters are really great around here and treat the dogs well.
Brief tangent…..I really want to start a collection of new dog doys for shelter dogs. Charlie’s so in love with his toys and and shelter dogs need that love and playfulness in their lives too (especially with what theyve been through). A lot of the shelters around here have toys for the dogs, but they’re usually used (aka gross) and just stay in the cages dog after dog. Wouldn’t it be nice if they could bring their favorite one with them to their forever home? When I contacted the shelters and dog rescue groups, they all said they needed toys. So anyway, just something running through my brain lately as I figure out the best way to do it. And cute name ideas for whatever I’ll call my collection proecss is always welcome btw…
More on that later…..back to Sunday…..
I admitted to spoiling my dog (can’t resist) and so when we saw that the meat truck (yes, we have a meat truck in SF) sold raw dog bones, I bought one for Charlie to try.
It was huge and bloody, but he liked it even when I was just carrying it around in the bag
I’ll spare you the photo of him eating his bone later that night. The thing was half as big as he was and bright red from the blood! So gross, but he loved it.
We toured an open houses after the festival (just for fun). I’m all about open houses lately! It was a really cute condo. Crazy though that $1million only buys you a 2 bedroom around here. Ugh.
And after stopping by a brief short political event, I spent the rest of the evening cooking. We had steak and rice for dinner…..and then made CaitlinHTP’s cornbread quiche for breakfast. I didn’t take any food photos…..
However, Jared sent his breakfast photo this morning (chocolate cake on the side, of course).
Fun to find good blog recipes!
And that was that. I’m all about festivals and finding one just for dogs was fun and different.
– Dog festivals near you?
– Would you ever get your dog a massage? A professional portrait? A stroller?
– Made any new recipes lately?

October 2, 2012 at 7:39 am (235 days ago)Love the dog toys project! I’ll let you know if I come up with any good ideas.
There are so many shelter dogs out there it makes me sad. I too wish I could save them all!
There’s a local photographer who does dog portraits for a few of the local rescue groups and I have thought about having him photograph Minnie. Nothing yet, but it’s in the back of my mind.

October 2, 2012 at 8:13 am (235 days ago)I love the dog toys project! I saw a blogger hold an online baby shower for victims of tornadoes, so perhaps you can do the same thing? You simply set up an Amazon “Wishlist” or Gift Registry of dog toys and participants can order directly form Amazon, shipping to you or one of the shelters. Pretty easy and I’d be more than happy to help and promote it!
You could also hold a giveaway and each person receives a point for each dog toy purchased to promote it even further.

October 2, 2012 at 10:34 am (235 days ago)No dog festivals around me as far as I know but right now we only have 2 kitties. Hopefully in the near future we will be in a place where we can have a dog (stupid apartment rules, lol). That festival looks like fun though. I wouldn’t however, get a stroller or a massage or a portrait, lol. They woulld get pet by us and since my hubby like to do photography…he could always snap the dog’s portrait, hehe. That cake looks very yummy btw!

And I keep hearing that Cali is in the middle of a heat wave from all my west coast friends. Eep! Hope a nice cooling breeze is headed your direction soon.
