Will Hike For Pancakes

I have a guest post up! Check me out on the MommyPage.  No…I’m not a Mommy, but I still love their site.

My blogging schedule has been off lately- the time of day I post, my photos, etc- but luckily, my work craziness is over mid-next week so I’ll have way more time.

And question– Has anyone been a Girls on the Run coach?  I am so interested in doing it– but they matched me at a school that is really far from me…..so before I committ, wanted to hear personal stories– tell me about your experience!

And now…to my hike on Sunday.

My friend Allison organized a group of us girls for a hike on Sunday.  8 of us ended up coming! We crossed the bridge, leaving foggy SF behind, and went over to Marin to hike Mt. Tam.

We hiked (mostly straight uphill), girl talked, and finally got some sun on our pale SF skins

The views were fab

Charlie came along

And finally….the best mid-hike reward ever– we reached the West Point Inn for their monthly Pancake Sunday!  One Sunday a month during from April-October, they host a Pancake breakfast.

Yeah! We reached the Inn

The place was packed, but we found a table in the shade, luckily.  And indulged in sweet, yummy pancake goodness.

Pancake yumminess

And after we had very full bellies, we hiked down the shady way for a total of 5.5 miles.  It was a great way to spend the day…and we were back in the city by 2!

I’ll hike for pancakes anyday!

Tuesday Questions:

– Ever been a GOTR coach?  Tell me about your experience…
– Do you tell all your friends that you blog?  And if not….do you put people’s pics up without asking them? I try not to, but just curious what other people do (cause I have some good people photos, but….)
– What was the last hike you went on?

That looks like so much fun! I’d love to do something like that with my friends. I don’t advertise my blog to my friends or family, and I don’t post many photos but I know I have some floating around with others in it. I know those people wouldn’t mind though, because they are close friends, unidentifiable, and the same pictures are floating around our Facebook and Twitter pages anyway.

That’s really true about the pics being on social media anyways….and my close friends prob wouldn’t mind either. It’s interesting that so many bloggers (me too) don’t tell their friends or family about the site

I know the main reason I don’t is because this is my one place where I can write whatever I want and not have to worry about what the people I see on a daily basis think of it. I know they don’t all hold the same interests in health and fitness that I do, so this is my one place to talk about it without boring anyone.

Good point. I think I don’t tell people for the same reason…I like to just write what I want without hearing their opinions. I admire all the people who tell everyone about their blog though…it’s much better marketing! just makes me uncomfortable

    a) Those pancakes look awesome! I love super traditional flat pancakes. b) I always wonder if I should tell friends I blog too. I try not to post pictures of people who don’t know about the blog unless it’s like a big group shot. I think if it’s a group picture that the people knew you were taking, it’s fine.

They were such “traditional” pancakes– I hadn’t had ones like that in so long and they tasted really good. I think you’re right about group shots being okay, esp because they usually wind up on facebook anyways

Ahhh this really makes me want to go on the long-desired hike I’ve been waiting to go on with my brother! There may not be pancakes at the summit, but maybe we’ll make some when we get home :)

What an amazing hike… in KS we don’t have much to “hike”. I always ask or make it very clear when taking the pictures that they will be showcased on my blog, which most of them know ahead of time. Cause that’s just me. I share my crafting blog with everyone. However, my sherpa blog is not shared with anyone I directly know. Not sure why really. Maybe when it’s off the ground a bit more, then again maybe not.

I hike almost daily with my dog! Your Mt Tam pics make me homesick for CA…I ask friends first before putting them on my blog. Sorry, no GOTR experience here but Caitlin at HTP has posted a lot about how fantastic it is and how it changed her life!

The views look fabulous and you really earned those pancakes!! Nice hike!
Not all of my friends know about my blog. I’m not sure why the idea of sharing makes me uncomfortable, but in any event I don’t post pictures without full disclosure and approval…which is probably why I don’t have many people pictures.

Agree…and if it was reversed, I think I’d feel weird if I stumbled on my photo on a “random” blog for everyone to see when I didn’t know it would be there

So funny to hear that you guys feel the same. My family and a few of my friends blog, but nobody else, so I don’t use their pictures. I fear they will find me one day though : )

I have to say, I’m absolutely fascinated by all these comments about how lots of people keep their blogging private. It seems so weird to me and, yet I’m one of them, that we can’t be really open with our friends about our love of all things healthy. My whole family knows, but only a handful of my closest friends and only those who feel similarily. I can’t exactly say why I haven’t come completely out in the open other than the idea of doing so makes me uncomfortable and I don’t think my friends will entirely “get me.” I’m glad to know I’m not alone.

Wow this is all so interesting! I share my blog with most of my family and friends and I have to admit that at times I do feel uncomfortable with it. Most of my friends think its really cool and they enjoy it. It does get weird sometimes because I want to tell them about something I posted and I don’t know if they actually read it or not so I have to start my sentence with “did you see how I posted about ….?” Funny. I post almost all of my links on FB for most of my friends to see. I have no idea who actually reads it and am actually really surprised by some of the people who tell me every now and then “I really love your blog.” So in that way its cool. But I can definitely understand why people dont. Sometimes I do feel that if no one knew about it (except my husband of course b/c I honestly don’t know what I would post about if he didn’t know) I could be a little more open or not be so concerned about what I write. But I just keep telling myself, I’m not talking bad about anyone, and I think in a way it challenges me to be more bold about things in a way I wouldn’t otherwise.
Great question! Thanks for asking. :)
Oh and those pancakes look heavenly.
We are stopping in San Fran on our way to our new home, will be doing one day of sightseeing…I will have to pick your brain on what we should see!!

Great comment! So interesting. For the few friends and family that do read (and my bf), I always feel a little weird telling them about something I did that I posted about too….cause I never know if they already read about it or not. Ha. And YES! I’d be more than happy to give you SF advice!! Email me

I am not one to quickly announce that I have a blog. If it comes up in conversation, way on down the line into a relationship, I might mention it. It’s odd. I think I can have a darker sense of humor on my blog and I want people in real life to know me a bit better before I let them see my sense of humor. Plus, I’m on the mom circuit and I don’t want to turn off potential new friends by making them think I’m judging what they feed themselves or their kids.

I don’t tend to post pictures of other people unless I know them well and they know I have a blog.
