August 1: WIAW #30

August!!

I decided that this month, less is more. I made my August goal really simple and focused….and include just one thing:

1) Exercise more regularly, and find a comfortable exercise routine. I’ve been all over the place with no real schedule or routine (sometimes I exercise in the morning, sometimes the evening, soemtimes run all week, sometimes just swim, etc), but this month I want to find a routine and exercise more than I have been. This should be easy because my gym is literally right at my new apartment and travel time is less than 60 seconds.

Last month (July), my focus was on appreciating the small things and finding extra things to smile about. Yes, I did this all month! I ended up not posting something every day because you know what I found? That it was the really simple, small things that made me happiest– a sweet text from a friend, a cute dog I passed on the street (without enough time to photograph for the blog), 10 minutes of sunshine during a busy workday. They weren’t always so blog-able, but that was ok. Though maybe, I should still have posted them. I’ll continue more on this topic later though because I think being grateful for the small stuff is incredible important.

And now to WIAW #30!

Thanks to Jenn, this month is all about SUMMER! I’m loving all the summer fruits lately…HOWEVER, I’m moving this weekend (ugh), so this week for me is all about eating up whatever’s left in my fridge. Aside from summer berries, it’s not very summer-ish, so I’ll have to recommitt to this next week.

Here are my Tuesday eats:

I started the day with a short morning run. It’s my last week running my favorite routes! I get nostalgic over things like that….even though my new place is close enough that I can run over here whenever I want.

Breakfast: Green smoothie (summer!), coffee, and a big tsp of flax (didn’t photograph the flax).

In just a couple minutes, THIS:

Became this:

And then off to work I went.

Lunch was packed….a sandwich (udi’s bread) with light cream cheese, smoke salmon and cucumbers. Carrots and celery on the side.

I ended up eating lunch at 11am so was more than ready for a snack at 1pm. An apple with heaping scoops of almond butter. Hit the spot!

I was ready for dinner right when I got home– chicken with the last of my bbq sauce and brussel sprouts steamed and then sautéed in coconut oil. Wow, coconut oil made these taste so good!! I had some leftover quinoa too, but added it after I took the pic.

And later, dessert was a chocolate fudge bar.

And now it’s mid-week already!

I love hearing the answers to my questions, so tell me:

Popsicle or fudge bar? Sandwich or Salad? Broccoli or Brussel Sprout?
– Do you have an exercise routine or prefer to do something different every month?
I like routines better, I’m more likely to stick to it.
– What’s your August goal?
– What verb describes your day?
Mine was planning. I planned out my work to-dos, planned my move logistics, planned my vacation days, etc. planning is exhausting!
-Have you ever sold anything on Craigslist? I sold my microwave today. I’m always amazed at how easy it is!

I sold a few pieces of furniture on craigslist. It works so quickly and was a good prelude to my garage sale.

I know, it’s a great compliment to a garage sale (and beats sitting outside waiting for people to stop by for hours and hours)

Popsicle, Salad, & broccoli and brussel sprouts are definitely tied
I usually stick to the same routines daily.

    Popsicle, salad and broccoli!
I’m the same-moving in August and hoping it will lead to a more regular exercise routine as I’m going from a first floor rented apartment to my own home! I do exercise DVDs and have been dying to start a morning routine but didn’t want to wake the downstairs neighbours at 6am!
Good luck with the move! Today’s verb is relaxing. Even though I’m at work last week was so stressful this week feels like a holiday!

Almond butter…I’m totally addicted, can’t get enough. I go with routines I find and put on Pinterest board to mix it up, but hit the gym 6 days a week. Fudge bar always!

i sold a piano once on craigs list. it was a little weird when the random guy came to strap it to his car – but it was money in my pocket and i didn’t have to move that sucker myself!

Brussel sprouts, my favorite. I haven’t had them in ages though. I love your meals. So fresh and tasty. Lately, anything cold at night is so refreshing. I love cooling down with it.

Something cool and chocolatey at night is my favorite way to end the day….and since you don’t have air conditioning, I’m guessing it’s a must!!

that smoked salmon looks soooooo delicious!!! I prefer having a set routine because it’s easier to keep up with. if my schedule is too random it gets too easy to miss workouts. I generally like to lift weight monday, wednesday, and friday morning. and I try to swim every afternoon. sometimes it doesn’t all go according to plan, but at least having a routine in mind helps a lot

I’m so jealous that you get to swim everyday….I would love that. I have to work swimming into my schedule more. The pool’s always so crowded, I have to try for off times (aka 9pm at night or 5:30am in the morning) though

that is tough! schedules kind of vary from pool to pool–you have to find a golden time to go. a lot of times, that is in the morning. but I like swimming in the morning–it gets my day off to a good start. I used to do it all the time, and I’ll probably start back up in September

I am all about popsicles in the summer and I’ve never been much of a chocolate person. Weird right? I do like to have a square of very dark chocolate every few nights though!

    Good luck with your move!
When I moved from Milwaukee to Madison I was down-sizing so I sold a lot of my furniture. I was amazed how easy it was on Craigslist. However, one guy showed up to buy a piece of furniture but then was trying to buy all sorts of random things. I told him I didn’t think he really wanted a used, nearly broken vacuum cleaner full of dog hair. Gross! He was really trying to haggle with me and then pulled out a huge wad of cash. His attempt at negotiating did not work with me! I was also a bit skeptical…I always made sure a friend was with me when anyone came to buy/pick-up!

[...] My goal in August was to have a more regular schedule at the gym.  And I know it’s only the 23rd and too early to say I’m sucessful, butttttt….I will say so far, so good!  I’ve been sticking to yoga on Monday nights (liking it more each time…I wasn’t a huge fan of the teacher at first, but she’s growing on me).  Tuesday mornings, I swim in the pool.  The post-dinner yoga to pre-breakfast swim though isn’t giving me much energy…next week I need a snack or something inbetween.  And Wednesday mornings I tried a Zumba class…..but it ended at 7:15 and made me too late to work, so instead I just try for 30 minutes on the elliptical.  The rest of the week isn’t as scheduled, but I manage to get in another 3 workouts between Thurs and Sun.  All in all- it feels more like a schedule, it’s de-stressing, and I’m happy about it.
