Mother’s Day Eats: WIAW # 20
Hey guys! I thought I’d do my What I Ate Wednesday post from Sunday’s Mother’s Day picnic at the park. We had a really nice day just hanging out outside, eating (of course), and playing games. Kind of a not-normal day of eating for me (weekend/holiday, etc) and must have been craving protein because I ate so much of it, but it’s what I ate on Sunday!
BREAKFAST: I woke up hungry, so I made an egg scramble with a quarter of a chicken apple sausage, an egg + egg white, and spinach.
Then I did a quick 45 minutes on the elliptical before getting ready to go down to my parent’s area. It was a nice day and we had planned a picnic at the park. Everyone had their food item to bring, so it was relatively easy to organize.
Charlie was really excited for all the food.
LUNCH: I filled up my plate with bbq chicken, israeli couscouse salad (my sister made- was filled with asparagus and soo good!), and veggies. Plus more carrots and peppers.

SNACK: Through the afternoon, I snacked on a big piece of watermelon, a starbucks coffee, and a few bites of frozen yogurt. No pictures, sorry…
We did take a group shot though. It’s blurry, but including it anyways.
After errands at Target (so nice because I never get to go there easily in the City), went home to SF for dinner.
DINNER: Brussel sprouts and a chicken/apple sausage. Ketchup, of course!
Not the healthiest of days (seems to always happen on my WIAW posts), but oh well!
Hope your day is going well!
– What’d you eat on Mother’s Day?
– Do you have the same food tastes as your mom? I do…for the most part.

May 15, 2012 at 9:45 pm (371 days ago)MMM, I love Brussels sprouts, and paired with the chicken sausage really makes me want to go make that dish…..now! I made whole grain peanut butter protein soft pretzels for my mom and went to her house with my wife on Mother’s Day. We just sat around and watched the past few Modern Family shows we missed and enjoyed each other’s company. My mom and I definitely have the same tastes. Happy WIAW!!

May 16, 2012 at 4:51 am (371 days ago)What a great idea to do your mothers day eats for WIAW! All your eats look fantastic, and it looks like you had a a great day! Yumm brussel sprouts! Was the ketchup just for the sausage? I have dipped brussels sprouts in ketchup before and it is really good, you should try it!

May 16, 2012 at 9:33 am (371 days ago)Haha- so funny that you wrote this– the ketchup was just for the sausage, but I ended up dipping my brussels in there as well– such a good (random) combo! But then again, ketchup is good on almost anything

May 16, 2012 at 5:02 am (371 days ago)Aww picnics are just the best Rebecca, especially on gorgeous days like you had! That dinner looks great, I have never even had chicken sausage though… I know what the heck. It’s on my to-try list!

Rebecca
May 16, 2012 at 9:36 am (371 days ago)My mom loves black licorice too! But I’m more a fan of the red ones…guess that’s a taste bud I didn’t inherit

May 16, 2012 at 12:47 pm (371 days ago)I was in charge of the salad for Mother’s Day dinner…I added radishes and you would’ve thought I was trying to poison everyone. 1/2 of the table loved the radishes and the other 1/2 were picking them out.
My mom likes salty food and snacks and I’m not much of a salt person.
Rebecca
May 17, 2012 at 9:27 am (370 days ago)Lol that is so funny about the radishes! I would have eaten them- I don’t usually buy them, but like them when they’re around

May 16, 2012 at 4:10 pm (371 days ago)I had the best seafood salad on Mother’s Day… and I’m jealous of your dinner, I haven’t had brussel sprouts in a few days and I feel like I’m going through withdrawl!

May 16, 2012 at 5:03 pm (371 days ago)Love Brussels sprouts! My husband and kids made me french toast for breakfast on Mother’s Day. We had sandwiches for lunch. Dinner was kabobs with hummus and pita and an Israeli couscous side. Very yummy!

May 16, 2012 at 5:56 pm (371 days ago)I have been eating a lot of israeli couscous lately…such a great alternative to pasta. Good to see someone else loves brussel sprouts too….most people turn their nose up at them, but I think they are wonderful!
Rebecca
May 17, 2012 at 9:26 am (370 days ago)I hated them as a kid, but now I can’t get enough!

My mom and I both love good food… what’s really funny is how much I love the foods she craved while she was preggers with me.
