Off to Wildflower….

It’s Wildflower weekend!

No, don’t be silly, not THAT kind of wildflower!

I’m talking about the Wildflower Triathalon….this insane, 20,000 person event when everyone has to camp out beforehand….so it’s basically one crazy campout of triathletes and the crazy people who support them.

I’ve never been before, so I’m not really sure what to expect. All I know is that it is 3 1/2 hours away from the City, there’s very little cell service, I have to take another vacation day today, we are camping for 2 nights, the temp will get to the 90s during the day but fall to the 40s at night, and SOOO many people go, the place is packed to the gills and like one big triathlete party.

Since I’m not racing, I think it’ll be a different experience for me than those who are doing one of the courses. I’ve talked about it a little bit before (on my CnC guest post), but supporting someone training for an Ironman is interesting….hard and great at the same time.

I like camping (for the most part….after a few days, I crave a hot shower)….and it will be a good excuse to spend time outdoors, explore, work on my tan and read. Trurthfully though, if it weren’t for supporting my bf, Wildflower wouldn’t be my first choice for this weekend. Hopefully, I’ll be plesently surprised….

I was in charge of the food for the wknd. They have a lot of food vendors at the event, so luckily we don’t have to bring every meal.

Plus, because it’s a race and food you eat before a race is different than random weekend-away junk food (and because I’m picky and like to know what I’m eating to make sure I like it), we had to prep a bit more.

Trader Joe’s helps of course. Salty snacks and graham crackers (for s’mores of course)….

I’m going to pre-make pasta and chicken to eat before the race on Friday night. And then are doing the regular pb&bagel for breakfast. Plus fruit, etc….

I’m actually most excited to spend time reading (sorry if you’re reading this Jared and you were hoping I would say I was most excited to see you cross the finish line- that will be nice too). I got the latest Jane Green book out of the library. Anyone remember Jemima J? I love that one. Her latest books have been good, but not great….but def good enough to keep me entertained while waiting for my racer

So there ya go….a random Friday post. Off to a crazy camping wknd.
See you guys on Monday!

- Who else goes to the library?
- Do you like camping? Why/Why not?

That looks like a lot of fun!! I’ve never been camping (miami girl) but would really love to one day. It’s actually nice that you aren’t racing and will get to enjoy the whole experience without nerves and pressure. Have fun!!!

What a cool race! I’ve never heard of anything like that before.
Camping is big up here in VT and I love it!

Have a great weekend. I’m jealous that you get to camp. I LOVE camping and am dying to get out our tent but unfortunatly it’s still a little cold here in the pac NW to get out there. One of my fave things ever is sitting around a camp fire, roasting some smores and then crawling into my sleeping bag smelling like campfire.

I LOVE Trader Joe’s version of Popchips!!! They’re so tasty. The BBQ ones are delicious.

    Have a fantastic weekend!

I think you’ll be up for the girlfriend of the year award. Camping before a triathlon sounds crazy! Even for short weekend races I’m really picky about going to bed early, having my AM routine, etc.
Of course I’m a huge fan of my local library and on a flight home this week I sat next to a best-selling non-fiction author so now I have more books to add to my queue.

I agree- plus, it makes it way more complicated- packing for camping is hard enough- add in all the racing stuff and it’s sooo much for a few days!

Have fun! We planned to camp at Wildflower last year but took the wrong tent and didn’t have the right poles. So… We ended up at a Motel 6. This year, we’re going with the Motel 6 again.
I definitely like camping, but I’d rather be in a quietish room before an event. Also, for me, camping is about “getting away from it all”, and Wildflower definitely does not offer that experience!
I hope that you have fun! I’ll be doing the Olympic on Sunday, but there is tons of “down” time for my “crew” (my husband). I think/hope that he had a good time last year.

Hope your race went well today!! Motel 6 sounds MUCH quieter than the campsite! It was a ton of fun though

I hope that you enjoy your weekend camping and cheering! Sounds like a lot of fun if you don’t have to race that is. I have the new Jane Green book, but haven’t read it yet. Have you read Straight Talking? I really liked that one! Hope you enjoyed your TJ’s snacks. I always stock up there before a trip!

I love the Chic Lit, and I think a lot of my favorites have new books out this summer.

I was basically wondering if you ever thought of changing the layout of your site? It is very well written; I love what youve got to state. But maybe you could add a little more in the way of written content so people could connect with it better. You have got a great deal of text for only having one or two images. Maybe you can space it out better?
